The Emergenetics Profile is a fascinating tool based on research showing that the way we think and act is based on our genetics as well as our experiences and environment. It is definitely the most useful tool I’ve found to understand my own and other peoples’ thinking preferences and types of behaviors. I’ve seen benefits across the board – in relationships, group dynamics, general communication, and (of course!) creating.
The Emergenetics Profile tests for four ways of thinking and three types of behavior. Everyone has some of each attribute; however, most people have one, two or three thinking preferences – ways of thinking that come more easily to them.
Here’s my profile, for an example:
From the profile you can see that the four thinking preferences are Conceptual, Social, Structural and Analytical. The three behavioral preferences (in purple at the bottom) are Expressiveness, Assertiveness, and Flexibility. Every person will have a unique profile. Any type of thinking with more than 23% on the pie graph is considered a thinking preference, so my lead preference is Conceptual, but I also have a secondary Social preference.
